Unknown Body emerges from a body crisis, which was unsatisfied with the traditionally established ways of doing dance. The body proposes a pause, a still act (LEPECKI, 2001) as a strategy to be able to keep dancing. The pause becomes the perfect channel to move what was stagnated.
The habitual dance step gives place to micro movements and to body state changes, which reveals the body fluids.
Unknown Body is a dance research which is a solo performance created in collaboration by Cinthia Kunifas and Mônica Infante.
Initiated in 2002, it was awarded by “Rumos Dança” from Itaú Cultural in 2003 and goes through ten years of mutation/transformation up to its current configuration. Covered by a “flesh dress”, the body experiments, after ten years, a dress printed in a tree trunk, which brings the concept of sap to work.
What is already happening before the conscious intention of moving myself?
Unknown Body has raised discussions about what could or could not be dance and it has been served as reference for artistic and academic works.

Fissure - performance and artist residency

Fissure is a creation process which happens as a site specific work. In its current phase the artists Cinthia Kunifas and Mônica Infante are collecting data from this site. The process can be described with three elements:
-
The body
-
The site
-
The question
The body – without protection, the body lives the collapse, the experience of trauma. The performer’s body travels through space. The path is downhill - a hurled body which evokes a primitive body.
The specific site - wreckage, stones, shade, humidity, tree barks, thorns, concrete, leaves…
The question – the fissure is related with trauma, which is the result of a breach in the protective barrier against (hyper) stimulation (LEVINE, 2010). The specific site also proposes its fissures.
